Looking back, the AC 2007 was a great success. Alinghi was
the Defender and BMW Oracle the "Challenger of Record",

the Louis Vuitton Cup.

Alinghi 5 was also 34 m long, but had soft sails. Its first mast of 45 -52? m was replaced in October
2009 by a 62 m high one.
Experts say that even these change did not achieve the benefits of a rigid wing sail.
