Although the Spaniards, including King Juan
Carlos (Olympian 1972 at Kiel in the Dragon
class) have excellent sailors, it was not sure
whether to participate in the AC in 1992.
When collecting money the "Columbus-year"
with the celebration of the Discovery of
America for 500 years helped the team so
magnificent, that they immediately decided to
apply for a Cup challenge.
