This was Sweden's second Participation since 1992. The Promoter was the charismatic businessman Jan Stenbeck, owner of TV2, TV3 and Europe's first free newspaper "Metro". Through smart acquisition, he acquired NZL-38, sister ship of the AC-winner of 1995. The boat was carefully overhauled and renamed "Christiana"From Prada he won the designer German (Mani) Frers, successful son of the iconic designer German Frers (senior).
